History
On March 10, 1937, Joseph Lewis and Jack Green founded Progressive Mutual Insurance Company in the Cleveland area to offer affordable vehicle insurance with an innovative approach to auto underwriting.
Over the decades Progressive pioneered online shopping for auto insurance, agent referral tools, and usage-based programs such as TripSense® and Snapshot®. It expanded into specialty lines (motorcycles, boats, RVs), commercial auto leadership, and personal residential property.
